About / FAQ.

As an executive career coach, LinkedIn specialist and CV / resume writer specialising in senior finance, I offer advice that helps people not just to get the job they want, but also to identify what they’re good at and find ways to do it better.

Devin Till
Executive CV Writer & Career Coach

Consult a CV and resume expert.

Much of my insight as a career coach comes from my decade’s experience recruiting senior finance professionals for some of London’s top search firms, as well as in-house for Google and Adecco.

In 2014, I decided to pivot to a writing / coaching career that offered more in terms of continuous learning, job satisfaction and helping other people to succeed. Since then it’s been a privilege to have helped over 3,000 clients.

Highlights include co-writing the CV that won ‘Best CFO Resume’ at our industry’s awards. I was also proud to be asked by British Airways to take the whole of the senior finance team through my CV coaching process.

It’s not just been senior finance; I’ve worked with heads of business, government, military and charity organisations, as well as a world poker champion, newspaper editors, undercover police and the first woman leader of an F1 racing team – Claire Williams was kind enough to be featured on my testimonials page.

Quality and pricing that beats the market leaders.

Between 2014 and 2022, I was the head CV writer for senior finance at the market-leading career services and outplacement business, City CV.

Hired early on as one of the first writers, I was at the heart of City CV’s growth from a near start-up into an international benchmark for high-quality career services. Working at the right hand of the MD, I played a lead role in the development of an optimal in-house style and coaching methodology.

Having left City CV in 2022, I now offer a much more in-depth service, with far more time invested in clients, at a substantial discount.

Frequently Asked Questions

Your process starts with an information gathering phase – I’ll send you a brief questionnaire, incorporate a current CV if you have one, research your objectives and prepare an agenda for our meeting.

We’ll then schedule a consultation that usually takes up to two hours, occasionally longer –  we’ll take all the time we need. I’ll then create a first draft before working with you on a collaborative process that will polish your CV until it shines.

My pricing structure is structured across three tiers (intermediate, mid-management, senior), but also depends on levels of complexity and seniority. I don’t include pricing and ordering mechanisms on this website because I talk to all my clients first to check viability of deadlines and objectives. It's always worth checking to see it’s a good fit from both sides. I do often have a significant waiting list, which fluctuates, so it’s best for clients to check turnaround time before they decide to go ahead. However, as a basic guide to price, none of my clients will pay more than three figures for a writing package.

This can be adapted for client requirements, free of charge where possible, but my standard turnaround time is 3-4 business days once the consultation is complete. I often have a significant waiting list, which is one of the reasons why I’ll ask you to meet me before ordering the service, so you can find out turnaround time.

When it’s feasible, I offer clients an express service of either 24 hours (£200) or 48 hours (£100), where I will also make myself available for instant revisions. If you’re on a tight deadline, please let me know as early as possible.

Coaching is a key component of my writing service. The best client writing projects operate on a deeper level – what are you best at? What’s your style? What can you be most proud of? What’s the narrative that links your proudest achievements? Do you have any roadblocks to success? And, crucially, how can we differentiate you from the competition?

As a client, you’ll be taken through a clear, structured writing and coaching pathway that drives consistent, tangible results through a pragmatic, outcome-oriented approach, drawing extensively on my experience as a senior finance recruiter.

Your documents will be written with the syntactical precision that comes from completing degree-level English studies, although the style will mostly be closer to the succinct, engaging and punchy approach used by advertising copywriters. There is a reason why advertising copy is written in this style – it convinces people to buy what’s being sold.

Over the course of my writing / coaching career, I’ve also found much of value in the principles of content design, as well as the thought leadership content produced by some consulting firms, notably McKinsey, as well as the big four accounting firms.
Much of the content used during coaching sessions will draw on my time with executive search firms, underpinning a pragmatic, directional and outcome-oriented approach. Several methodologies are integrated, based on collaborations with and learning from many coaching colleagues over the years, as well as the coaching course I completed at the University of Cambridge.

There are lots of good CV and resume writers out there (and more than a few bad ones), but I don’t know of any that have such a perfect background for a CV writer specialising in senior finance. I have two decades of experience working with senior finance professionals as a copywriter, recruiter and coach; this gives you access to an in-depth understanding of key finance skills, employer / recruiter preferences and executive hiring processes. Plus, your CV will be written in the kind of succinct, persuasive writing style that gets results.

Not only that, I spent eight years with the UK market-leading career services business, City CV, where I was the lead writer for senior finance, working with thousands of clients, including hundreds of CFOs, FDs and other finance leaders. Most of my competitors don’t have this volume of experience and it took years of practice to reach the level I’m at. Having set up my own business in 2023, I now offer clients a much more in-depth service to City CV, and at a substantial discount.

If you’re tempted to work with a larger firm, you should know that their service is likely to cost way more than it needs to due to significant overheads, mostly offices, wages and advertising; most of your money is not going to the writer. Plus, while a business founder might be personally impressive, they’re often a marketing figurehead who doesn’t get involved at all in the day-to-day client work. If you work with me, I guarantee I’ll personally handle all consultations, writing, revision and coaching sessions; nothing is delegated, except an additional ‘four eyes’ proofing step.

If you’re thinking of using AI to write your CV, you might want to consider that to a practiced eye, AI writing usually stands out for its artificial tone. Plus, an AI CV’s content will only be as good as the competency examples you can give it – you’ll get much better results using a careers expert as a sounding board. If a good AI CV has already been written, I’m yet to see it.

Many of my clients are current or aspiring CFOs, but I work with qualified accountants and finance professionals at all stages of their careers, ranging from Big Four Audit Trainees to Partners, and from Financial Accountants to Finance Directors. As a former senior finance recruiter, I have first-hand knowledge of what you need to progress, whether you’re in practice, financial services or commerce and industry.

Relevant job titles include CFO / Chief Financial Officer, Finance Director, Director of Accounting, Chief Accounting Officer, VP of Finance, Senior Finance Business Partner, Financial Controller, Audit Senior, Audit Manager, Group Internal Audit & Senior Risk Manager, Director of Accounting & Finance, Financial Accountant, FP&A Manager, Head of Commercial Finance, Commercial Finance Manager, Senior Financial Analyst and Head of Finance.

Client qualifications include ICAEW, ICAS, CAI, ACA, ACCA, CIMA, CIPFA, CA and CPA, plus of course partly-qualified or experienced non-qualified finance professionals.

As a recruiter, I must have had hundreds of discussions about qualifications with CFOs, FDs and other senior leaders in the process of building their teams, so I know how highly many of them prioritise academic success. Most of my relevant training has taken place over the past two decades - developing an in-depth knowledge of accountants and senior finance professionals - as a coach, writer and recruiter.

My academic background included securing A-levels in English, History, Economics, Politics and Philosophy, all at A grade, before achieving a 2:1 BA (Hons) in English and American Literature at the University of Sussex. Since then, I’ve completed a coaching course at the University of Cambridge and I’m an NCFE Qualified Counsellor.
